CM - Riva-Aguero's Party
All the shining stars of Lima are here, and many foreign guests as well. Laughing, drinking, trying to talk over the music of the band on the small stage at one end of the ballroom. José de la Riva-Aguero smiles and chats with his guests, taking it in turns with his wife Mercedes – resplendent in a traditional, flowery Andalusian gown – to welcome the newcomers as they arrive. The evening air – warm, gentle – flows in and out of the open doors and windows of the ballroom, lending the occasional lively flicker to the yellow glow of the candles and gaslights on the stone walls.
