Creakyburk Pensive
A raven flies northward across the water and toward the town of Creakyburk - a wriggling minnow in its claws. It is evening, and the sun is setting over the forest to the West, and the shadow of the World Tree in the distance stretches across a hundred miles of treetops. We fly first over the residential district - the smells of evening meals being prepared rises from a thousand flues as the workday comes to an end in Creakyburk. Cable cars full of commuters rattle past below. After the outer ring, the commercial district - where rows of lights in buildings and plazas are beginning to flicker to life. The raven pauses in mid flight - considering a swift detour to snatch another morsel from one of the night market stalls. But you know what they say - fish in claw is worth .. two. Something something. Upwards and onwards - and the destination is coming into view over the skyline - arcane lights spill out through massive walls of stained glass, glittering marble turns orange in the light of the setting sun - we see the unified temple and the airship dock complex - nearly home. The raven flies higher still, and banks west as it cautiously enters the swarm of air crafts that surrounds the airship docks at all hours. Dodging a skiff that is pulling into its garage WAY too fast (- by the way - racing skiffs with student driver signs are the #1 cause of death for temple ravens over the last 5 years) - the raven tucks its wings and zips through a small window at the highest level of the docks - emerging into the pavilion of the unified temple. In the middle is the old temple - which looks like a miniature model in the middle of the massive atrium. The raven dives towards the tallest point of the historic wood and stone structure - the belltower. It hasn’t chimed in years - but visitors are moved to sit in the plaza and think on the days when its ringing used to call the fishing boats back home to old creakyburk - and then decades later, when it rang to frantically signal that some unspeakable monster of the blight was approaching through the mists of the swamp. The raven ducks into the tower, then hops down from beam to beam, and finally settling into its nest- and the fish quickly disappears down many tiny gullets.
