Istanbul during Atatürk
1922-ben Atatürk és szövetségesei eltörölték a szultánságot, ezzel lezárva az Oszmán Birodalom korszakát. 1923. október 29-én kikiáltották a Török Köztársaságot, amelynek Atatürk lett az első elnöke. Elnöksége alatt mélyreható reformokat vezetett be a társadalom, gazdaság, oktatás és politika területén, modern és világi köztársaságot teremtve. Atatürk vezetése a nemzetet válságos időszakban egyesítette, katonai győzelmeket hozott, és olyan alapokat teremtett, amelyek ma is az ő örökségét tükrözik.
