Pitch Harbor
Named for its pitch black sands, this harbor is a major shipping port for all of Amyrest as well as the only way to enter the kingdom by the sea. Though anyone can visit the kingdom, everyone who does must pass through Pitch Harbor’s Registration Office first to be documented. They don’t seem to care how you leave.
Merchants have their wares shipped along The River of Purity to different parts of Amyrest before being moved across land. During the rainy season of Spereign, there are competitions to see who can bring their cargo down the rivers the quickest. Hundreds of spectators line the shores to watch makeshift vessels powered only by oars wind their way through the swelled banks, rapids, and rocky shorelines. Prizes are little more than bragging rights though often lead to more business as it’s proof the cargo will make it on time.
Pitch Harbor is home of The Mace & Mead Tavern, one of the largest in Amyrest being five stories high. The tavern has a stage, full kitchen, small brewery of Mace Mead in the back, and rooms for rent nightly on the second floor or longer stays on the third floor. The fourth floor has sets of suites often rented out by those of wealth or given as a sign of respect to nobles. The top floor has offices, private suites, and an arsenal that’s rumored to rival The Blade’s armory…but that could just be a rumor spread by the owners to discourage would-be robbers
The city itself is vast with several shops, theaters, taverns, businesses, and inns. There is a constant flow of dor roaming the streets at all hours. The closer to the northern shore one gets, the more dense the population is. The city is ever growing and expanding along the shores, ever sprawling towards Sper Stone and the Heart Forest.
Just across the Green Path to the east, the countryside opens to rolling hills, farmland, and dotted with patches of woods. Life outside the Harbor is much slower, quieter, and far less populated.
