Sunlight filters through the ashram’s shutters with the steady murmur of the street...jitney buses groaning, scooters whining, vendors hollering samosa garam, pakora, chaat in bright, percussive bursts. The scent of frying spices, incense, and diesel swirls together, warm and dizzying. A breeze stirs cardamom and dust across your skin, the layered sounds thin, settling into a small, unexpected stillness, broken only by the thought of the seductively fragrant street bites shaped unabashedly by bare hands, moist pungent rags, and feet nudging dough into place.
